CARLOS CORNEJO LOAYZA

ARTIST BIO

Born in Potosí-Bolivia, on September 20, 1956 Carlos Cornejo Loayza was captivated by the arts at early age, which developed later in a prominent carer which wold take him into an artistic journey all over the world,

He studied fine arts at the Art School of Universidad Autónoma Tomás Frías, starting later his career in 1980 together with other Latin American artists in a group exhibition in Lima-Perú. Since then he was part of many other solo and collective shows in Bolivia, Perú, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, France and Italy. Among his awards received are "Manos Unidas", National Geographic and Universidad Étnica in A Coruña-Spain.

His vocation for teaching took him to become an art professor in various cultural centers in Spain, where he lived for many years. This experience masked his life in the most inspiring way and as a result he shares his knowledge of painting, drawing and creating murals wherever he travels.

He also started exploring the world of music and poetry composing several unpublished piano pieces presented in various concerts in Potosí. His love for poetry took him to participate in many literary anthologies such as “Potosí Poético”, “Nuevas Crónicas Potosinas”, “Letras y Misterios”, “Antología Poética Mundial”, “La Papa”, publishing later some of his most popular poems in the cultural section of local newspapers.

Back in Potosí he founded the art gallery “Kay Wasiyki”, open to visitors to explore in more depth his art world, his music and his several painting workshops organized monthly.
